National Cholesterol Awareness Education Month

  • Three Kinds of Cholesterol: LDL (bad -100 mg or less), HDL (good – 60 mg or more) and Triglycerides (form of fat that can raise risk for heart disease)
  • Know Your Numbers: total cholesterol should be under 200, go to the doctor to have a cholesterol test. High cholesterol can increase your chance of having heart disease.
  • Ways to Lower Your Cholesterol: exercise at least 30 minutes most days, eat more fruits and veggies, cut back on foods with lots of fat (fatty meats/fried foods) and foods with lots of cholesterol (egg yolks/whole eggs) For more information visit: American Heart Association - Cholesterol.
