kellys_kitchenCooking shows have become a popular staple on television. Now Greeley has its very own cooking show to boast about.

Beginning January 1, 2009, Greeley's government access channel GTV8 added Kelly's Kitchen to their program line up. The series of six short shows broadcast daily at 6:15 a.m., 2:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. as well as various other times for the first 100 days of 2009. This was part of Steps to A Healthier Weld 100 Day Resolution Challenge for all Greeley and Weld County residents. The challenge encouraged residents to stick to their healthy, but sometimes tough, News Year's resolutions.

Filmed on location in Greeley, each episode features a specific theme focused on one aspect of healthful eating habits, such as healthy snacks or including more whole grains in meals. Kelly does this in just 3 to 5 minutes; a format that's fast and fun. The chef is Kelly Leonard, a registered dietitian, whose positive energy about good nutrition is matched perfectly to the show's mantra, "Nutrition that Tastes Great."

Kelly is a natural teacher who is also a natural talent in front of the camera. She has been teaching nutrition and weight management classes at Aims Community College and other locations in Weld County and this is an extension of her passion. "I have always thought having a cooking show on TV would be fun. And now I'm getting to do just that. Even better, it's great to know we're getting good nutrition messages out. I think they'll eat it up," says Kelly chuckling.
