Worksites

According to the 2007 National Prevention and Health Promotion Summit's CDC greeley_well_cityAbstract Book, preliminary results show increased health awareness and action towards healthier lifestyles resulting from worksite environmental changes. It is estimated that health promotion worksite programs result in overall benefit-to-cost ratios of $3.48 in reduced health care costs and $5.82 in lower absenteeism costs per dollar invested. In addition, there is a return on investment of at least $3 to $8 per dollar invested or more within five years of program implementation.

In 2007, Steps to a Healthier Weld County began recruiting businesses in Greeley to participate in the "Greeley Well City Initiative". The goal of this initiative is to have Greeley recognized as the tenth "Well City" acknowledged by the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA). In order to achieve this goal, 20% of the working population in Greeley must be employed at a worksite that has a comprehensive worksite wellness program accepted by WELCOA. To date, over 30 businesses in Greeley have begun worksite wellness programming at some level.

For the 2009 grant year, Weld County will focus on providing technical assistance and micro-financing to businesses as they focus on environmental changes and policy development in the areas of physical activity and healthy eating.

To date, all 30 businesses that have initiated employee wellness programs at their worksites continue to engage their employees in worksite wellness efforts.
